The Problem

The stakeholder we worked together with is providing a global financial security service. Their request was to develop a design solution that helps sales traders identify risks and opportunities in a fast and efficient way.

When we started this project, the company promoted several different tools for completing tasks. The challenge was to overview the existing products and create an overarching new design solution.

The Process and My Role

/initial setup and challenges

At the start of the project, we had to understand the company’s workflow and some financial terms. To achieve that, we had insightful discussions with the stakeholders. In addition, I did my research to come up to speed.

Initially, our team consisted of four UX designers and one project manager. A few weeks into the project, the project manager left the group, which created some confusion. To solve this, I became the Research and Design lead, and we worked together with the company’s contact person to deliver on time.

/research phase

Based on the company’s needs and business goals, we defined the aims of this project and the user groups (two personas). Then, I created a participant profile questionnaire sent out to the employees. We collected enough quantitative data to select the interview participants.

We scheduled semi-structured user interviews with a set of questions. The aim was to see the users interacting with the current tools and their frustrations. After this, we had meetings with the stakeholders to analyse the interviews.

/design phase

During the meetings, we had brainstorming sessions. The ideas we came up with were later turned into sketches and wireframes. Then, we maintained an iterative process by continuously presenting our design to the stakeholders and modifying them according to the feedback.

/testing phase

We agreed on many designs, and I included these in a design document. We sent out this document to users across Europe, Asia and the US. Based on the feedback we received from them, we modified the designs.

At the end of the project, I presented a summary of the design process and the end product to the stakeholders.

The Solution

The design solution we came up with was a smart notification system. We created notification categories and a personalised alerts system. Also, we paid attention to omitting using grids and moving towards widgets.
